Hurricanes Recall Rissanen from Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC - Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled defenseman Rasmus Rissanen from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Rissanen will join the team in Denver, where the Hurricanes take on the Avalanche on Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET.

Rissanen, 24, has earned one assist in four games for the Checkers so far this season. The Kuopio, Finland, native made his NHL debut in 2014-15, appearing in six NHL games and registering four penalty minutes for the Hurricanes. On the AHL level, he earned an AHL career-high 11 points (1g, 10a) in 52 games for the Checkers last season. Carolina's sixth-round selection (178th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Rissanen ranks sixth in Charlotte's AHL history in games played (244), totaling 37 career points (7g, 30a).

The Hurricanes visit the Colorado Avalanche in the third-game of a seven-game road swing on Wednesday (10 p.m. ET, FOX Sports Carolinas, Hurricanes Radio Network). The team's next home game is on Oct. 30, when it hosts the Avalanche at 7 p.m. at PNC Arena.
