
Hurricanes Acquire Joe Jensen From The Pittsburgh Penguins

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that the Carolina Hurricanes, their National Hockey League affiliate, have acquired left wing Joe Jensen from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for center Dave Gove and has assigned Jensen to Albany.
Jensen, 24, has four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in 27 games this season for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Pittsburgh's American Hockey League affiliate, while also appearing in nine games and posting seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. The Maple Grove, Minnesota native was drafted by Pittsburgh in the eight round (232nd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and split his rookie season (2006-07) between Wheeling and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. In 53 career AHL games, Jensen has 15 points (8 goals, 7 assists).
Jensen played four years of Division I college hockey for St. Cloud State University of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. In 153 career games with the Huskies, Jensen (5'11", 180 lbs.) scored 100 points (45 goals, 55 assists), while setting a school record for most career game-winning goals (13). Jensen was also named to the All-WCHA Academic Team twice during his collegiate career.
Gove, 29, has 23 points (8 goals, 15 assists) in 45 games for the River Rats this season and has appeared in 94 career AHL games in an Albany uniform. The Centerville, Massachusetts native was undrafted out Western Michigan University, but joined the Carolina organization during the 2005-06 season, his fifth as a pro. Gove made his NHL debut that year and has appeared in two career NHL games, both with the Hurricanes. Gove has played in 393 career AHL games, tallying 162 points (80 goals, 82 assists).
Jensen is expected to be in the River Rats lineup Friday night, February 1st, as they square off with the Syracuse Crunch for a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center. Albany will be looking to snap a current four-game losing skid against Syracuse as well as break ahead of the current logjam in the East Division standings.
