
Hurlbut Goes the Distance in 4-2 Victory

JUPITER, Fla. (May 8, 2014) - David Hurlbut tossed a complete game to guide the Fort Myers Miracle to a 4-2 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Thursday night at Roger Dean Stadium.
Hurlbut (2-1) needed just 99 pitches to record 27 outs. Inducing three double plays, Hurlbut got Viosergy Rosa to ground into a 3-6-4 twin killing to end the game in the ninth. Fort Myers gave Hurlbut an early lead against Jupiter starter Scott Lyman.
In two previous starts against the Miracle, Lyman (2-2) had not allowed a run in 12 combined innings of work. Fort Myers broke through against Lyman in the first inning.
Levi Michael led off, but exited the game after fouling a 2-1 pitch off his front foot. Aderling Mejia entered for Michael with a 2-2 count and laced a single through the left side. Mejia was retied at second base on a force play hit into by Jorge Polanco. Then, Byron Buxton doubled down the left field line to put runners at second and third with one out.
Mike Gonzales lined an 0-2 pitch into center to bring in Polanco and Buxton. After a ground out to third by Niko Goodrum, Adam Brett Walker delivered a two-out double down the first base line to score Gonzales from second and give the Miracle a 3-0 lead.
The Hammerheads got one run back in the bottom of the first against Miracle starter David Hurlbut. Viosergy With runners on the corners, Rosa drove in a run by beating out a potential double play, 3-1.
The Miracle put pressure on the Jupiter defense in the second inning. With one out, Mejia earned a walk and went first to third on a Polanco base hit. Then, Polanco stole second base. The throw down by Austin Barnes went into center field and Mejia scored from third, 4-1.
Jupiter scratched a run across on Hurlbut (2-1) in the fourth on back-to-back doubles Matt Juengel and Rosa. Juengel led off with a two-bagger into right center and Rosa followed with a roller down the first base line to bring in Juengel, 4-2.
Hurlbut did not allow another hit until the ninth.
The Miracle (20-14) have now won four in a row and return to Hammond Stadium on Friday night for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch against the Hammerheads (13-21). Gates open at 6 p.m. for a Fill'er Up Friday. Fans can purchase a $16 All You Can Eat wristband, $11 with an already purchased ticket, for unlimited hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, peanuts, chips and ice cold beverages through the sixth inning. The All You Can Eat wristband also gets fans $2 pricing on domestic draft beers through the sixth.
