
Huntsville wins in a shootout

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Jeff Dams and James Patterson both scored in the shootout as the Huntsville Havoc came from behind to beat the Columbus Cottonmouths 4-3 Thursday night in front of 2,683 fans.
Doug Merrell scored for Huntsville just 5:28 into the game with assists from Aaron Lewis and Dams.
Columbus responded with two straight goals, a shorthanded goal from Orrin Hergott with 13:15 left in the first and a Tylor Keller goal with 3:56 left in the first.
Both teams went scoreless in the second period before Huntsville got a powerplay goal from Derek McKinlay with assists from Dams and Patterson. Columbus took the lead back at 3-2 on a Tim Green goal with assists from Keller and Lorne Masita.
Dan Buccella scored with :03 left when he beat Chad Rycroft to tie the game at 3-3. Patterson and Dams had the assists.
Columbus had seven shots on goal in the overtime period but Havoc goalie, Matt Carmichael turned them away.
Hergott and Josh Liebenow both missed in the first shootout. Carmichael then stopped Masita shot and Dams scored for the Havoc. Green scored on the Cottonmouths third shot and Patterson won the game on the final shot for Huntsville.
Carmichael stopped43 shots in the win and Rycroft stopped 32 in the loss. Huntsville was 1-of-5 on the powerplay and Columbus was 0-of-4.
The two teams meet again Saturday night in Columbus.
