Asheville Aces News Release
ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Aces beat the Macon Trax 6-5 tonight in a thrilling battle in front of 2,113 fans.
The Aces scored first but the Trax quickly tied it up. After that, it looked as though it would be an easy night for the Aces as they scored three unanswered goals. With the score 4-1 heading into the second, the Trax capitalized on mental errors by the Aces and were able to keep the game close.
With the score 6-3, the table was once again set for the Aces to finish off the Trax. Unfortunately, more mental errors brought the game to 6-5 with just over fifteen minutes to play in the game.
Some late penalties led to a chaotic scene as Macon Coach Tommy Stewart was ejected from the game for arguing a call and proceeded to throw a bundle of sticks on the ice. The break in the play, and the ensuing powerplay allowed the Aces to regain their focus and finish off the game, squeaking out the victory.
The Aces had goals from Dan Beland, Peter Bournazakis, Peter Cermak, Chad Brandimore, Janus Tomans, and Chris Ferguson. The Trax had markers from Eden Welch, David Deeves, Steve Zoryk, Lou DiMasi, and Ryan Rivard. Aces goalie Mark Scally stopped 30 of 35 shots and Trax goalies Mark Cairns and Nick Neidert split the duties stopping 25 of 31.
The next Aces game is this Sunday at 6:00 p.m. versus the Jacksonville Barracudas at the Asheville Civic Center.
