Hunter's Late Homer Lifts M-Braves over Barons

Birmingham, AL - The Mississippi Braves escaped with a series winafter a 5-4 victory over the Birmingham Barons Saturday evening in front of7,913 fans at Regions Field.

Tied at 1-1 in the second inning, Jamie Pedroza gave the Barons a 3-1 lead with a two-run home run into the right field bleachers against starter Mitch Atkins. The homer was Pedroza's fifth of the season and the first against his former team.

Meanwhile, Seth Loman continued to terrorize his former team, hitting an RBI double toleft field in the sixth inning which tied the game at 3-3. Loman hit .353 (6-for-17) in five games against the Barons in the series with two home runs, three doubles, five runs scored and seven RBI.

The Barons reclaimed the lead with a two-out rally in the sixth. Pedroza, Jeremy Farrell and Dan Wagner recorded consecutive two-out singles in the inning with Wagner's hit plating Pedroza for a 4-3 lead.

Barons starter Scott Snodgress allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out four over 6.0 IP. Bryan Blough (1-1, 3.41) replaced Snodgress in the seventh inning and promptly surrendered a two-out RBI single to Jose Peraza, tying the game at 4-4.

Cedric Hunter gave the M-Braves their second lead of the game an inning later with a leadoff home run against Blough. The home run was Hunter's seventh of the season and gave Mississippi a 5-4 lead.

The Barons were unable to mount a final rally as John Cornely (6-2, 2.98) allowed just two hits over 3.0 scoreless innings to end the game. With the loss, the Barons fell to 4-5 in the second half and 33-46 overall while the M-Braves improved to 6-4 in the second half and 45-34 on the season.

Dan Wagner paced the Barons offense with three hits going 3-for-4 with an RBI while Pedroza and Jared Mitchell each finished 2-for-4.

The Barons head back on the road Sunday to begin a five-game series against theChattanooga Lookouts. Mike Recchia (3-2, 2.97) takes the hill in game one against RHP Nick Struck (1-4, 7.80). First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 PM CDT.
