Hunt Named WHL Player of the Year

Moose Jaw Warriors graduating forward Dryden Hunt was awarded the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy today for the WHL Player of the Year during the 2016 WHL Awards Luncheon in Calgary, becoming the first Warrior to ever win this prestigious award.

The 20-year-old from Nelson, BC had his best WHL season with the Warriors, he led the WHL and CHL with 58 goals and finished second in the WHL in scoring with 116 points. Hunt was the first Warrior in 21 years to score 50+ goals in a season and was the first Warrior in ten years to record 100+ points in a season.

Hunt led the Warriors with 36 multi-point games which included 13 multi-goal games. Hunt also recorded six hat tricks throughout the season, which included a streak of four hat tricks in five games.

Along with teammates Brayden Point and Zach Sawchenko, Hunt was named a WHL Eastern Conference First Team All-Star, and he was named a WHL Player of the Week once and was the WHL Player of the Month once. On March 2nd he signed an NHL Entry-Level Contract with the Florida Panthers.

The most prestigious individual award of the Western Hockey League has been named the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy in memory of the four members of the Swift Current Broncos who died in a tragic accident on December 30, 1986.
