Calgary, AB. - The Western Hockey League's Annual Bantam Draft is scheduled for Thursday in Calgary.

The Wheat Kings, who chose Caiden Daley in the first round of the 2015 draft, will have the 20th overall selection of the opening round.

"There are always going to be good players," Brandon's director of scouting Wade Klippenstein told Perry Bergson of the Brandon Sun. "There just seems to be more them some years. This year we're picking 20. Last year we got a very good player in Caiden Daley at 21. We hope to do something similar this year. When you're picking at the back end of the draft, you're at the mercy of the teams in front of you."

Alberta is expected to lead the way again this year when it comes to draft eligible talent.

Among the players expected to hear their names called Thursday will be forwards Peyton Krebs, Kirby Dach and Kaeden Korczak.

The top Manitobans expected to be chosen Thursday include netminder Trent Miner of the Brandon Bantam Wheat Kings, forward Cole Muir of the Yellowhead Bantams and center Tristen Robbins of Brandon.

"Last year we saw a very deep year in Manitoba where we had six players in the first round," Klippenstein went on to tell the Sun. "The talent shifted a little bit this year where Manitoba doesn't have that depty in the draft early but there are always 30 to 40 kids selected from Manitoba.

In 2015, a total of 36 Manitobans were chosen, including six by the Wheat Kings.

Brandon wound up drafting ten players at last year's bantam draft.
