
Hudson Valley Completes 3-Game Sweep Of Vermont With 11-0 Win Saturday

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - Three Hudson Valley pitchers combined on a four-hitter, while the Renegades offense took advantage of eight walks and four Vermont errors leading to seven unearned runs in an 11-0 shutout victory and three-game sweep of Vermont Saturday night in New York-Penn League action at Dutchess Stadium.
The Renegades jumped out to a 1-0 lead in bottom of first inning on a force attempt throwing error by Vermont starter Adam Reuss. Hudson Valley added a second run in the third on a two-out solo homer from Tyler Frank for a 2-0 advantage.
Reuss allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with three strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings before wildness from relievers Brandon Marsonek and Jeferson Mejia led to nine Hudson Valley runs combined in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Hudson Valley got a run in the fifth on a Chris Betts two-out RBI single off Marsonek, who had earlier issued a leadoff walk and two-out base on balls. Two more walks by Marsonek and another force attempt error in the sixth was followed to a Mejia bases loaded walk and run-scoring wild pitch to give the Renegades a 5-0 lead.
Then in the seventh Mejia walked three more batters, including another bases loaded base on balls and run-scoring wild pitch before the Hudson Valley scored three more runs on a Bryce Brown single that included a fielding error by centerfielder Jeramiah McCray, one of four Vermont errors on the night, for the 11-0 advantage.
Nicholas Padilla, who allowed two runs on 10 hits over eight innings in two appearances against Vermont last season, tossed five scoreless innings with two strikeouts on Saturday. He allowed just two hits, a Jameson Hannah two-out triple in the first and Alfonso Rivas two-out double in the fourth.
Vermont collected just two more hits, two-out singles from Payton Squier and McCray in the seventh and eighth innings. Trey Cumbie allowed the two hits and struckout six in his three innings of relief, while Andrew Gist one strikeout in a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
It is the worst shutout defeat for the Lake Monsters since a 13-0 loss to Jamestown on August 19, 2009, The three losses at Hudson Valley marked the first time since August 26-28, 2016 at Connecticut that the Lake Monsters have been swept in a three-game series on the road.
Vermont (5-4) begin another three-game road series at Aberdeen on Sunday beginning at 4:05 pm. The Lake Monsters return to Centennial Field on Thursday for a six-game homestand June 28-July 3.
