Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- Batavia looks to win their first series of the season tonight against Williamsport. Batavia won the first game of the series on a walk-off, but dropped the second game in a rain shortened contest. Tomorrow the Muckdogs leave for a three game series in State College.
That was yesterday- Batavia had sparked a rally in the bottom of the sixth as they trailed 9-1. The Muckdogs scored three in the bottom of the sixth, and three more in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a two-run shot from Sean Reynolds to make it 9-7, but rain cut the game short as Batavia had a runner on first with one out in the bottom of the eighth.
Offense Overload- In six of the last seven games, Batavia has managed to score at least six runs in each of those contests. Batavia has one of the top scorers in the league, with Jerar Encarnacion sitting in first place with ten runs.
Exploding Encarnacion- Jerar Encarnacion has been on a tear to start of the season. On his current eight game hit streak to open the year, he's hitting .514. He leads the league in hits (18), RBI (10), he's second in extra base hits (5) and sits second with his .514 average.
Same Skipper- Calling the shots this season will be second year manager Mike Jacobs. Jacobs spent seven years in the bigs with Mets, Marlins, Royals, and the Diamondbacks. He clubbed 100 HR's in his MLB career, 32 of which came in 2008 with the Florida Marlins. He also tacked on 93 RBI's that year. His first year as a manager in Batavia saw the team go 30-45.
Some Superlatives- This year's players come in all shapes and sizes. The tallest being Sean Reynolds who towers at 6'7". The shortest five check in at 5'11". The youngest Muckdog is Dakota Bennett who is currently 18, and the oldest on the roster is Logan Boyd who is 24.
Cutters cutting town- This is one of only two times that Williamsport will make their way to Dwyer Stadium this season. The other visit comes August 23-25. Batavia does make a trip to central Pennsylvania from July 17-19.
Recent Roster Action- RHP Osman Gutierrez was released, OF Ricardo Cespedes was called up to Greensboro, and RHP Jameson McGrane was assigned to Batavia
Marlins Update- The Marlins got dropped by the Rockies last night by a 11-3 final. Colorado put up a six-run fourth JT Realmuto and Derek Dietrich each went 3-5 in the game
