Charleston, WV (May 14, 2009) - Erik Huber went 4-for-5, homered twice on Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park and drove in seven of West Virginia's 14 runs as the Power clobbered the Delmarva Shorebirds 14-4 in the first game of the series.

Huber's big night began with a solo homer in the second inning, and he blasted a Grand Slam one inning later. He doubled in two runs in the fourth and smacked another two-bagger in the eighth. Huber also scored four times.

Chase D'Arnaud singled in West Virginia's first run in the bottom of the first. In addition to Huber's solo homer in the second, Josue Peley drove in Greg Picart on a sacrifice fly. Huber's Grand Slam in the third inning gave West Virginia a 7-1 lead and his two-run double in the fourth gave them a 9-1 edge. Huber scored later in the fourth on Austin McClune's single. A passed ball plated McClune in the seventh and Picart scored on Robbie Grossman's groundout later in the inning. The Power scored their final two runs in the eighth. Erik Huber scored on an errant throw from L.J. Hoes and Hoes committed a fielding error later in the inning, allowing McClune to touch home plate.

The Shorebirds scored their first run of the game on Tyler Kolodny's solo homer in the top of the second. In the seventh, they plated a pair of runs. An error committed by Robbie Grossman in center field allowed Xavier Avery to score before Elvin Polanco drove in Joe Mahoney on a two-out double. Luis Bernardo singled in Jacob Julius to plate the final run of the game in the ninth inning.

Rudy Owens (4-1) allowed a pair of runs, only one earned on three hits over five and a third to score the victory. Ryan Kelly (1) picked up the save after surrendering just a run on four hits over three innings of relief. Nathan Moreau (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits over two and a third.

West Virginia improved to 10-23 after the win, and the Shorebirds fell to 17-13 with the loss. Huber led the way with this 4-for-5 performance, and three other players turned in multi-hit games. McClune, D'Arnaud and Quincy Latimore all hit safely twice. Huber's two-homerun night was the second multi-homerun game of the season for the Power. Calvin Anderson accomplished that feat on April 11th. The 14 runs were also a season high for the Power.

West Virginia will continue the four game series with the Delmarva Shorebirds at Appalachian Power Park on Friday night. Right hander Kyle McPherson (1-1, 7.71) will start for the Power and the Shorebirds will counter with left hander Rick Zagone (3-2, 1.54). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
