HICKORY, N.C. - The Hickory Crawdads recorded their 100th all-time shutout, and sixth of the season already, with a 5-0 blanking of the Lake County Captains before 2,412 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Thursday. RHP Wilmer Font (2-0, 1.50) dealt five shutout frames with six strikeouts to earn the win.

The Crawdads (17-16) broke the scoreless tie in the second inning and never looked back. RF Mike Bianucci led off the inning with a single, quickly followed by a base hit from 3B Matt West. Both advanced an extra base when RF Abner Abreu bobbled the ball on West's single, putting Bianucci at third and West at second with no outs. LF Timmy Rodriguez came up next and drove a pitch to right field for a sacrifice fly to score Bianucci from third. Later in the inning with West still on at second and 1B Clark Murphy on first, SS Edward Martinez dropped an RBI single right inside the right field line to bring in West and put Hickory ahead of Lake County (15-17) by two runs.

The Crawdads tacked on another run against Captains starter LHP T.J. House (1-4, 3.79) in the sixth inning, when 2B Erik Morrison scored from third on a sacrifice fly hit by West. Morrison finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, an RBI and a run, extending his hitting streak to nine games, the longest of any Crawdad this season, with 14 hits over that stretch.

While LHP Yoon-Hee Nam (3-1, 0.93) shut the Captains bats down from the sixth through the eighth, Hickory added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh against RHP David Roberts (1-1, 2.78). A leadoff single by DH Mike Hollander, who made his Crawdads debut tonight, started the inning and was followed later by three consecutive two-out base hits by CF David Paisano, C Leonel De Los Santos and Morrison. Paisano batted in Hollander to extend both his hitting and RBI streaks to six games, with 11 hits and seven RBIs over that stretch. Morrison then knocked in Paisano with a drive up the middle, making it 5-0.

After compiling four strikeouts and only allowing one hit through three innings, Nam gave way to RHP Fabio Castillo (0-2, 0.47) for the ninth. Castillo allowed one hit and one walk, but struck out CF Delvi Cid to end the scoreless ninth as well as the game, wrapping up the 5-0 shutout win for Hickory.
