Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
The PawSox took a pair of games on Tuesday afternoon in Fort Mill, South Carolina, sweeping the Knights 6-1 and 5-1. In the opener, the completion of Mondays' game, Ryan Lavarnway clobbered a pair of homers to lead the attack. Lavarnway had 3 RBI. He has 15 home runs to lead the PawSox, and 45 RBI. Scott Atchison (6-1) earned the win in relief. Two prominent Red Sox prospects returned to action for Pawtucket. Ryan Kalish went 2-4 with a double as the DH. It was his first Triple A action since injuring his shoulder in mid-April. Junichi Tazawa scattered 4 hits in 2 scoreless innings of relief. Tazawa last pitched for the PawSox in 2009 before undergoing "Tommy John" surgery. Brett Carroll added his first PawSox homer. He had hit 15 for Nashville this year.
In the night cap, Matt Fox retired the first 14 hitters he faced, en route to the victory. Fox (7-4) struck out 8 hitters in 6 innings. Daniel Nava blasted a 2 run homer over the right field fence. He had 3 RBI. Nate Spears and Lars Anderson had one each, as well.
The PawSox are back in first place in the North as they head into game 3 of the series. Game time on Wednesday is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Brandon Duckworth faces Dylan Axelrod.
