5 Things to Know about #HOUvDAL
Texas Derby Part II
FC Dallas travels down to BBVA Stadium to take on Houston Dynamo FC in the second of three Texas Derbies this season. The clubs faced off at Toyota Stadium in May and played to a 1-1 draw with goals from former FCD winger Fafa Picault for Houston and Jáder Obrian for Dallas. Now, FCD will look to pay it forward and take points from BBVA Stadium.
Taking Chances
Over the last two games, FCD registered 34 total shots (including 22 from inside the opponent's box) but was unable to find the back of the net. Prior to those matches, Dallas had scored nine goals over four games with six of them coming from the front three of Ricardo Pepi, Paxton Pomykal, and Jesús Ferreira. Dallas will look to recapture its goal-scoring form against a Houston defense that has conceded 30 goals- tied for second most in the Western Conference.
El Capitán
Every year, FC Dallas and Houston compete for the right to keep El Capitán, an 18th century replica cannon. The winner is determined by whichever team earns more points against one another over their regular season matches. El Capitán has been housed in Toyota Stadium since 2018. With the 1-1 draw at Toyota Stadium earlier this season, FCD will need to earn positive results in its two matches at BBVA Stadium to retain EL Capitán once again. Against Houston
The all-time regular season series between Dallas and Houston is 13-12-15 (W-L-T) in FCD's favor. Last year, the teams faced off four times with Dallas earning two wins, one loss and one draw (FCD won both its home games), meaning FCD took the lead over Houston in the all-time series. Earlier this season, the teams played to a 1-1 draw on May 8 at Toyota Stadium.
About Houston
Houston is currently in 12th place in the Western Conference with 18 points and a 3-8-9 record. Last time out, the Dynamo fell 2-1 to Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium. The club's two top scorers this season are both former FC Dallas players, Maxi Urruti (6) and Fafa Picault (5).
