Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX- (Monday, July 31, 2006) -The Houston Dynamo returned to their winning ways on Saturday, claiming a 1-0 victory over in-state rival FC Dallas.
Craig Waibel scored the lone goal of the game for the Dynamo at the 37th minute, after a corner kick by Dwayne De Rosario from the left side. This would be the second goal of the season for Waibel.
Although the "Hoops" did their best to even up the score, Houston held on to the win, and now sits 4 points away from the top of the Western Conference.
With the victory, the first for the Dynamo in the last five regular-season contests, Houston claims its first-ever season series over Dallas. The Dynamo also takes ownership of "El Capitan", which goes to the winner of the series, crowning it the "Best team in Texas".
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Houston Dynamo will travel west to face Real Salt Lake on Saturday, August 19. This will be the third meeting of the season between both clubs. Houston has come out victorious in the previous two games, both by a 2-1 advantage. The game is slated for 8:00 p.m. CT, and can be seen locally on HDNet, and listened to in Spanish on Radio Concierto 850 AM and 101.7 FM.
WAY TO GO, DE RO!
Congratulations to Dwayne De Rosario for scoring MLS's lone goal against Premiere League Champion Chelsea FC. The goal was enough to give the MLS All-Stars the victory, and to earn "De Ro" the award as Most Valuable Player of the game. Dynamo players Eddie Robinson, Ricardo Clark, and Brian Ching also played in the game against Chelsea.
ONE FINAL PUSH
After last Saturday's game against FC Dallas, the Dynamo have only three regular-season contests to play at home. Come support your Houston Dynamo as it takes on Chivas USA on Sunday, September 17, in what will also be the Dynamo's Hispanic Heritage Night. The two remaining regular season contests at home for Houston will be on Saturday, September 30, against DC United, and Saturday, October 14, against the Colorado Rapids. All these teams are in playoff contention in their respective conferences, so competition promises to be stiff to the bitter end!
