Houston Dynamo Come-From-Behind for 3-2 Victory over San Jose Earthquakes

HOUSTON - A second half flurry propelled the Houston Dynamo to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the San Jose Earthquakes at BBVA Compass Stadium this evening. Forward Mauro Manotas scored his 15th goal of the season, a new club record for goals scored in a single season, as Houston secured its eighth victory of the year at home.

In the 36th minute, Quakes midfielder Tommy Thompson drew a penalty after the referee called a foul on Dynamo defender Alejandro Fuenmayor. Forward Chris Wondolowski stepped to the penalty spot and finished to the bottom corner of the right post, just past the outstretched arms of Dynamo goalkeeper Joe Willis, who guessed correctly on the direction of the spot kick.

The Quakes doubled their lead just before heading into the locker room through an own goal by the Dynamo. In the 45th minute, Quakes midfielder Jackson Yueill sent a low cross toward Wondolowski in the middle of the box, but the ball deflected off of Fuenmayor's foot and into the net as he battled with Wondolowski to be first to the cross.

Midfielder Tomás Martínez set up Houston's first goal in the 56th minute when he played a through ball to Manotas at the edge of the box. The Colombian striker controlled the ball with his right foot and blasted a low shot past Quakes goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell to ignite the rally.

The Dynamo equalized just after the hour mark. In the 68th minute, forward Romell Quioto delivered a corner kick from the left side to the middle of the box. Tarbell deflected the ball, but Martínez found the rebound and fired a left-footed shot to the near post and into the net.

Quioto capped off the second-half rally with the game-winning goal in the 87th minute after Manotas evaded a challenge and dribbled into the final third. The forward fired in a hard centering pass that Tarbell dove to put a hand on and try to deflect, but the deflection fell right to Quioto and the Honduran international capitalized for his fifth goal of the season.

The Dynamo will be back in action on Monday, October 8 when they travel to the Pacific Northwest to face the Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field at 9:30 p.m. CDT. Later that week, they will travel down the West Coast to California for their first-ever game at Los Angeles FC on Friday, October 12 at 9:00 p.m. CDT at Banc of California Stadium.
