New England Revolution News Release
TORONTO, Ontario - The New England Revolution (8-11-11, 35 pts.) fell to Toronto FC (9-15-6, 33 pts.), 4-1, at BMO Field on Saturday evening. The Revolution jumped out to an early lead with a goal from forward Cristian Penilla in the 10th minute, but Toronto FC responded with four unanswered goals, three coming in the second half, to claim all three points.
After Penilla's early goal, Toronto pulled level in the 36th minute with a strike from Sebastian Giovinco. The Reds grabbed the lead in the 53rd minute as Lucas Janson buried a rebound to put the hosts up 2-1. Toronto then went ahead 3-1 in the 58th minute with a penalty kick, converted by Victor Vázquez following a foul by Jalil Anibaba. Marky Delgado added Toronto's fourth in the 81st minute.
Penilla's strike was his 11th goal of the season, moving him into a tie with Teal Bunbury for the team lead in 2018. The Ecuadorian also moves into a tie for the third-most goals among all MLS newcomers in 2018. Midfielder Luis Caicedo earned his fourth assist of the season on Penilla's tally, and is now tied for the third-most assists on the team.
New England returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 6, when the club travels to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to face Atlanta United FC. The contest kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Univision, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and in Portuguese on 1260 AM Nossa Radio.
