CORPUS CHRISTI - Adrian Houser scattered five hits and yielded two runs in a seven-inning, 80-pitch performance as Corpus Christi edged San Antonio 3-2 Tuesday night at Whataburger Field before 5,329.

Houser (1-2), who walked one and recorded four strikeouts, retired nine straight and 12 of 13 after the Missions touched him for a first-inning run. Fifty-nine of his pitches were strikes and seven innings matched a career best.

Juan Minaya notched his first save, dispatching all six of the Missions he faced. Minaya fanned two to run his strikeout total to 20 vs. two walks over his last five appearances.

Tuesday's game lasted just 2:08, the shortest nine-inning game of 2015 for Corpus Christi.

Conrad Gregor's seventh-inning RBI off Brandon Alger (3-4) was the game-winner. Jon Kemmer drew a lead-off walk, was sacrificed to second by Jack Mayfield, and raced home when Gregor dumped a bloop single into center.

The game's first batter, Luis Domoromo, lined a single up the middle, reached scoring position on Benji Gonzalez's sacrifice bunt, third when Hunter Renfroe singled, and home after Houser's wild pitch.

The Hooks (17-15; 65-37) immediately leveled. Brett Phillips stroked a lead-off double and moved up a base on Jed Lowrie's deep fly to left. Phillips crossed on an errant pick-off attempt by Casey Kelly.

Corpus Christi had the makings of a big rally in the second, but had to settle for a singleton. The Hooks loaded the bases on Kemmer's single, a Mayfield ground-rule double, and hit batsman Gregor. Kemmer tallied when Alfredo Gonzalez hit into a double play, and Kelly induced an inning-ending ground out from Chan-Jong Moon.

Kelly dodged another bullet two frames later as the Hooks had runners at the corners with one out, when he threw a double-play ball to Gregor. Kelly threw an efficient 61 pitches (40 strikes) in his five innings, allowing an earned run, three hits, and two walks. The former Red Sox farmhand struck out three.

Duanel Jones' sixth home run - a two-out shot to left in the sixth - knotted the score.

Hooks right fielder Teoscar Hernandez had an 11-game hitting streak snapped.

San Antonio slipped to 12-20 and 43-59 despite out-hitting the Hooks 5-4.

The series concludes Wednesday at 7:05, with Corpus Christi's Chris Devenski (7-3) facing James Needy (4-0). Gates open at 5:30 on Whataburger Family Day; adults can purchase a ticket at the box office and get their kid's ticket free.
