Hounds Heading to Everett in September

The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club, in conjunction with the Everett Silvertips (WHL), are excited to announce that they will participating in the Annual Holiday Inn Pre-Season Classic in Everett, Washington.
The event will take place from September 3rd to September 5th, 2010 at the Comcast Arena, home of the Silvertips.
"This is a very unique and exciting opportunity for our players and hockey staff to take part in this event. It will allow us to compete against three very strong WHL clubs while spending time together as a team growing and bonding. In the past it has been difficult for our team to get much variety in the teams that we play in pre-season games, so when this opportunity presented itself we wanted to take full advantage of the experience" started Hounds GM Dave Torrie.
Joining the Hounds will be all 5 teams from the WHL's U.S. Division; the host Silvertips, Tri-City Americans (2009/10 Division Champions), Portland Winterhawks, Seattle Thunderbirds and Spokane Chiefs.
The Hounds will play three games and their tournament schedule is as follows:
Friday, September 3rd vs Everett Silvertips 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 4th vs Portland Winter Hawks 3:00 p.m.
Sunday, September 5th vs Tri-City Americans 3:00 p.m.
"I'd like to thank Doug Soetaert, Zoran Rajcic and Craig Hartsburg of the Everett Silvertips for working with us to make this opportunity possible. I'd also like to thank our ownership group lead by Chairman Dr. Lou Lukenda who realized that this unique opportunity would be a great experience for our players. Obviously there are many costs associated with a trip of this magnitude, so we are very fortunate to have an ownership group who have the players' and team's best interest at heart when making these type of decisions" concluded Torrie.
This trip will mark the first-time ever, the Hounds have participated in such an event, while also marking the first time in tournament history that a team outside the WHL has competed in Everett.
At the conclusion of the tournament the Hounds will return to Sault Ste. Marie in preparation for four other pre-season games versus the Saginaw Spirit (September 10/11) and Sudbury Wolves (September 17/18).
The Hounds will open their 39th season in the Ontario Hockey League on Friday, September 24th when they play host to the Ottawa 67s in their only visit to the Essar Centre.
