Erie Otters News Release

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League own the 29th pick in the 2009 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft being held tomorrow (Tuesday) beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The 29th pick is scheduled to take place at 2:10 p.m.

Each team in the CHL is permitted to carry two European Import players each season. These players are selected annually at the Import Draft, with the order of selection rotating through each of the three leagues in the CHL using an inverse order of their final regular season standings from the 2008-09 season.

The Otters have Russian goaltender Ramis Sadikov held over from last year's Import Draft. He was selected with the 36th pick from HK-Rus.

The Western Hockey League's Prince George Cougars own the first selection of the 2009 CHL Import Draft. The OHL's Sarnia Sting will select second and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Halifax Mooseheads will pick third.

The eighth annual Erie Otters Champions for Education Golf Tournament will be held Monday, August 30 at Lake Shore Country Club. The noon shotgun tournament offers golfers an opportunity to play a round with a member of the Otters (current or alumni) on one of Erie's most challenging and picturesque 18-hole courses. The benefactor of the Tournament is the Erie Otters Education Fund, which supports The Brad Boyes Scholarship, awarded annually to a local male high school athlete who excels on and off the playing field. The Fund also assists in the educational needs of former members of the Otters following their OHL careers. The tournament also supports numerous charities. Registration for the tourney is $150 per player and includes golf with cart, lunch, snacks and beverages on the course, dinner following golf, prizes and much, much more. Space is limited so register today by calling the Otters Office at 814-455-7779.
