Lake Country DockHounds News Release
KANSAS CITY, KAN. - The Kansas City Monarchs completed the sweep against the Lake Country DockHounds Saturday evening by a 9-6 final at Legends Field.
Lake Country all-star Alex McRae started on the hill for the DockHounds and pitched five innings. He gave up four earned runs and struck out seven before being relieved in the sixth inning.
The DockHounds set the tone early with an early base hit by Gabriel Noriega. Gio Brusa sent a ball into the bullpen to give his team the lead on a 2-run homer.
Kansas City would not score until the fourth inning when Chad De La Guerra went yard to trim the Lake Country lead to one run.
Gabriel Noriega grounded into a double play but scored Zion Pettigrew in the process. TJ Bennett hit a moonshot to right field for his ninth home run of the season. These scores happened in the fifth inning.
In the next half inning, back-to-back-to-back doubles drove in two for the Monarchs. De La Guerra also drove in a runner with a single. The score was then tied 4-4.
The eighth frame was generous to the 'Hounds as they took a one-run lead. Wilfredo Gimenez beat out the relay throw to first, avoiding the double play. Tristen Carranza put a baseball through the third baseman's legs on what would be ruled an error. However, it scored Bennett.
The strength in the bullpen for Lake Country began to dwindle late in the contest. Takoda Metoxen walked three batters that scored the first two runs in the bottom of the eighth. A 2-RBI single from David Thompson put the Kansas City Monarchs in the lead, 9-6.
The visiting DockHounds were unable to come back in the ninth.
The DockHounds look to shake off the 6-game skid with a 6-game homestand beginning Tuesday, July 19th. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. You can catch the action live on AAbaseball.tv, with the voice of the DockHounds, Sam Matheny, providing the play-by-play commentary.
