Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC fell to Columbus Crew SC, 3-0, this afternoon at Obetz Training Center.
Crew SC held a 1-0 lead at the half before tacking on two second-half tallies to close the match. Pittsburgh now holds a 2-2-3 record this preseason.
"We couldn't keep the ball, so we were just defending," assistant coach Dan Visser said. "We grew into the game a little bit and had some moments. There were some positives in the end. We have a longways to go, however."
Columbus struck first in the 37th minute, placing a shot into the bottom-left corner from inside the penalty area.
The MLS squad scored again in the 47th and 54th minutes, with each shot being taken from inside of the 18-yard box as well. In the 47th minute, the club freed up space before converting from the left side of the pitch. Columbus' final goal occurred after a series that saw multiple rebound opportunities.
Before Crew SC found the scoresheet, the Hounds had a couple opportunities of their own. Defender Ryan James played a cross just beyond the end line in the 24th minute. Three minutes later, Lukas Fernandes sent a cross across the goalmouth, but just missed connecting with Mark Forrest.
Riverhounds SC will close its preseason with a match against Toronto FC II at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7 at Highmark Stadium. This match is free to attend for the public.
