Hounds Beat Spirit 2-1

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) - The Saginaw Spirit lost to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 2-1 Tuesday night in Sault Ste. Marie. The Hounds have a game on the Spirit in the best-of-seven series; the series stands at 2-1.

The Soo Greyhounds took a 2-0 lead in the first two periods. Center Dustin Jeffrey scored on the power play at 19:05 in the first, assisted by defensemen Josh Godfrey and Michael Quesnele. Godfrey would advance the Soo lead to 2-0 with a power play goal at 3:34 in the second, assisted by winger Brandon MacLean and center Andrew Desjardins.

The Spirit would fight back in the third period. Center Jack Combs scored at 10:34 in the third to move the score to 2-1. Defensemen Nigel Williams (COL) and Mitch Maunu assisted on the goal. The Spirit pulled netminder Ryan Daniels (OTT) in the final seconds of the game for an extra attacker, but despite the effort Saginaw was unable to tie the game.

Spirit goalie Ryan Daniels stopped 25 shots in the game.

The Greyhounds will host the Spirit Wednesday night at 7:00 PM for Game 4. The Spirit return to Saginaw for Game 5 against the Hounds Friday night at the Dow Event Center, 7:11 PM.
