June 30, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Soo Greyhounds News Release

Soo Greyhounds GM Kyle Raftis announced this afternoon the club has completed a deal with the Midwest Division's Erie Otters.

In the transaction, the Greyhounds acquire overage defenceman RYAN THOMPSON in exchange of the Soo's 10th Round Selection in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection.

'We have been looking for a veteran presence to add to our blueline and we are excited to be able to bring Ryan in. The timing made a lot of sense to add Ryan into the program early in the summer as we prepare for next season' began Raftis.

Thompson, a Missisauga ON native, was originally selected by the North Bay Battalion in the 1st Round of the 2019 OHL Under 18 Priority Selection.

After competing in 43 games with the Battalion in 2019-20, Thompson was a member of the Erie Otters this past season (2021-22).

In 50 regular season games, the 6.03, 195-lb rearguard had 2 goals and 5 assists, good for 7 points.

'We believe Ryan's leadership, skill set and physicality will add another dynamic to the group. This should support our young and veteran players alike, not just on the blueline but throughout the entire lineup' concluded the Hounds GM
