Soo Greyhounds News Release
Soo Greyhounds' players in high school, college and university received a progress report this past Friday from their various institutions. The results were extremely positive as all players not only met but exceeded the new academic standard put in place by the Hockey Club this summer.
All high school players are required to take a full course load, no exceptions. Players are required to keep all marks and their cumulative average over 60% or they will be held out of the lineup until they meet that standard. All players at the post-secondary level are required to take two courses each semester at the university or college level.
This years Hounds have 8 players at the high school level. The overall average of all players combined came in at 81.2, with 7 of the 8 players holding an average above 80 percent.
Next weekend, Hounds goaltender MATT MURRAY will be named the Rome's Your Independent Grocer Academic Player of the Month of September/October. Matt is enrolled in French Immersion program at Superior Heights High School. Matt is taking a very difficult course load which features Financial Accounting, Environment & Resource Management, English, and Advanced Biology. All courses are at the University level. Matt is carrying honour roll grades and an average of 81.25 even with that very difficult course load all while placing 6th in the entire OHL in goaltender wins with 9 despite being only in his second season in the league. Matt will be presented with his award next Saturday night vs Owen Sound.
Other academic standouts at the high school level include NICK HALAGIAN. The 16 year old St. Catharines native is carrying an average of 87.25 in courses at the university level at St. Mary's College. Also at St. Mary's College, DYLAN STAPLES and DARNELL NURSE are carrying averages of 85.3 and 85.3, respectively in courses at the University level.
GIANLUCA CURCURUTO and ALEX MORGAN are also holding averages above 80% at Superior Heights
At the post-secondary level, progress reports on COLIN MILLER, BRETT FINDLAY, BRANDON ALDERSON, NICK COUSINS and MICHAEL SCHWINDT have been excellent.

The Hockey Club and Jerry Bumbacco (Acadmic Advisor) are extremely thankful for all of the tremendous effort and assistance provided by the staff's at Superior Heights, St. Mary's College, Sault College, and Algoma University.
