Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
And We're Back... Bowling Green's offense erupted while Victor Munoz and Anthony Molina combined to allow one earned run int he Hot Rods 10-2 win on Friday night. Nate Soria had a career-high four hits with three RBIs while Heriberto Hernandez hit two home runs (including going back-to-back with Logan Driscoll in the ninth inning) while the offense pounded out 16 hits. Molina struck out a career-high eight out of the bullpen while BG went on to win their seventh game in eight attempts.
Yesterday's Notes... Hernandez has homered in three of the four games against Greenville this week... It was his first multi-homer game of the year... BG has had seven two-homer games this season... He extended his hit streak to four games... Driscoll has a five-game hit streak... Soria set a new career-high with four hits... It was his 6th multi-hit game of the season... Ramirez had his third multi-hit effort of the season... Berglund had two hits in a game for the fifth time this season... He had six multi-hit games... Lopez batted in the leadoff spot for the first time this year... Auer hit third for the first time for BG... Molina set a new career-high in strikeouts... BG has won seven of their last eight games... They're 8-2 against Greenville this season... The Hot Rods are 29-11 in games decided by four or more runs... BG has scored the first run of every game in this series...
Changes... The Tampa Bay Rays announced on Tuesday that Hot Rods Infielder Ronny Simon had been promoted to AA Montgomery, making room for 2021 Hot Rods infielder Gionti Turner to receive a promotion from Single-A Charleston. Simon leaves the Hot Rods as the team leader in both stolen bases (22) and home runs (15). Turner returns to the Hot Rods after playing five games with BG in 2021 at the end of the season. On Friday, Matthew Dyer was activated from the IL after rehabbing with the FCL Rays. Graeme Stinson was promoted to AA Montgomery on Saturday.
Playoff Ready... With the Hot Rods clinching their spot in the 2022 SAL Playoffs, tickets for the post season games at Bowling Green Ballpark have gone on sale. The Divisional Round will begin on Tuesday, September 13 at the second-half South Division Champion's ballpark before game-two of the series will be at Bowling Green Ballpark on Thursday, September 15. If game-three is necessary, the Hot Rods will host that game on Friday, September 16. In the event the Hot Rods advance to the League Championship, they'll host game-one on Sunday, September 18 before finishing the series on the road on Tuesday, September 20 and Wednesday, September 21at the North Division's winner.
Clinched!... BG finished the first half leading their division for the third time in club history, clinching a playoff spot with 2018's Midwest League Champions and again in 2011. (there were no halves in 2021). The 2011 team finished the first leg of the season with a 41-29 record while the 2018 Hot Rods set a franchise record with 47 wins in the first half and a record of 47-22. The 2022 club became the third Hot Rods team to the 40-win mark in a half.
Among the Leaders... The Hot Rods have multiple players that are amongst the league leaders in several categories. Recently promoted Ronny Simon leaves the team tied for eighth in the league with15 homers. Simon is also tied for fourth in runs scored (57), eighth in stolen bases (22), and eighth in total bases (136). Kyle Manzardo is now qualified and is tied for eighth in homers (14), third in batting average (.312) and OBP (.415) while leading the league in slugging (.590) and OPS (1.005). Heriberto Hernandez is sixth in extra-base hits (33) and second in doubles (22). Mason Montgomery, who hasn't been with BG since July 9, still leads the SAL with 118 strikeouts while Anthony Molina is tied for the league lead with nine wins. Joe La Sorsa, who is also in Montgomery, is still tied for second in the SAL with seven saves.
