Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - On Tuesday, the Bowling Green Hot Rods lost to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers by a score of 5-2 at Neuroscience Group Field.
After a rainout on Sunday and an off day travel-day, the Hot Rods began their roadtrip by committing a season-high four errors, in which two of them aided the Timber Rattlers when it came to scoring runs.
To begin the scoring, a fielding error after a double by Wisconsin outfielder Joantgel Segovia helped plate Ronnie Gideon in the second inning to put the Timber Rattlers up 1-0.
Two innings later, a throwing error on a single by Gideon allowing Timber Rattlers second basemen Tucker Neuhaus to score to make it a 2-0 game.
Offensively, the Hot Rods got their only runs of the game in the fifth inning. Following a single from designated hitter Jonah Heim, outfielder Joshua Lowe launched a two-run homer over the centerfield wall against Wisconsin starter Thomas Jankins (W, 1-1) to tie the game up at 2-2.
For Lowe, the homer was his second of the season. He hit the blast 408 feet.
Unfortunately for Bowling Green, their momentum did not last for long. Timber Rattlers shortstop Gilbert Lara hit a solo homer in the bottom of that frame against Hot Rods reliever Deivy Mendez (L, 0-2) to put Wisconsin back on top. They later scored a run on a wild pitch from Mendez to go up 4-2.
Wisconsin scored their only other run of the game for either on a RBI single by Neuhaus in the eighth inning.
After the Lowe homer, the Hot Rods were blanked by a pair of relievers over the final four innings. Lefty Daniel Brown (S, 2) notched the save with three innings of scoreless work to finish the game.
Despite the loss, the Hot Rods outhit Wisconsin by an 8-5 margin. They were led by Heim along with outfielders Eleardo Cabrera and Jesus Sanchez with two hits apiece.
With the loss, have matched their longest losing streak of 2016 season at four games.
The Hot Rods continue their series in Appleton on Wednesday with game two of a three-game set. Bowling Green will send RHP J.D. Busfield to the mound to try to stop the skid.
First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. central time at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.
