Final High School Games at Fifth Third Field Tonight and Thursday

Dayton, Ohio- This spring, Fifth Third Field and the Dayton Dragons hosted a series of high school baseball games for the 12th straight season. A doubleheader Wednesday and single game on Thursday will close out the series for this season.

The games at Fifth Third Field also serve as a fundraiser for the participating schools. This year's series of games will raise approximately $30,000 for the schools to help with the cost of uniforms, equipment, and bus transportation.

The first game on Wednesday, which begins at 4:30 p.m. will be a makeup of a postponed game April 22nd between Greenville and West Carrollton. Greenville is 10-13 overall and 5-8 in conference play, while West Carrollton is 8-12 overall and 6-5 in the GWOC.

Greenville features Tanner Ross, who is leading the team in RBI with 17, is second with 19 hits, and sports a batting average of .368. Three other members of the Green Wave have chipped in with at least 13 runs batted in. Kyle Mills, Austin Paulus, and Peter Pandey have combined for seven of the ten wins the pitching staff has earned in 2017.

West Carrollton is paced by the red-hot Noah Martin whose average sits at .389 due to 28 base hits. He has doubled six times, scored 20 runs, and driven in 15. Five other players have also reached double digits with their RBI totals. Martin has also put together a 2-1 record as a pitcher. Tre Nixon leads the Pirates in innings pitched, wins, and strikeouts.

The nightcap is at 7:00 p.m. with Springfield meeting Brookville. Springfield is a member of the Greater Western Ohio Conference where they own a 3-8 record in the National East Division. The Wildcats are 7-13 overall. Avery Swigart has been the biggest offensive weapon this season for Springfield, leading the squad in batting average, hits, home runs, RBI, and runs scored. A.J. Schnitzler has gone 4-1 on the hill in a team-high 35.0 innings.
