Lexington Legends News Release

A ninth-inning rally by the Lexington Legends fell short Sunday as the Bowling Green Hot Rods held on for a 7-6 win at Applebee's Park.

The Legends held an early 3-0 lead, scoring three times in the second inning as Bowling Green starter Matt Moore walked three hitters in the inning, and all three came around to score. Bowling Green came back on a two-run homer by Mike Sheridan in the third, and added the tying run in the fourth. Lexington moved ahead 4-3 in the fifth when Federico Hernandez doubled home Albert Cartwright. Ronnie Ramirez gave the Legends a 5-3 lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, but Bowling Green cut it to one when Anthony Scelfo led off the top of the seventh with a homer. In the eighth, the Hot Rods took the lead for the first time.

Jason Tweedy singled to lead off against reliever Jack Tilghman, and Mike McCormick followed with a double, sending Tweedy to third. John Mollicone and Justin Reynolds were each hit by a pitch, forcing in a run to tie the game. Danny Meszaros relieved Tilghman and got Robi Estrada to line out to right, but Scelfo singled to center, scoring McCormick. Mollicone also came home when center fielder Jay Austin bobbled the ball for an error to make it 7-5.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Ramirez walked, and advanced to second on an infield out by Austin. Cartwright's ground ball went through the legs of third baseman Jason Tweedy for an error, scoring Ramirez and putting runners at first and second, but Jamie Bagley struck out Phil Disher to end the game.

Tyree Hayes (2-2) got the win in relief for Bowling Green. Tilghman (1-1) took the loss. The Legends are off Monday, and will remain at home to start a four-game series against the Rome Braves Tuesday night at Applebee's Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
