Asheville Tourists News Release

(Asheville, NC) - The Tourists and Drive tangled in an afternoon affair Sunday to complete their brief two-game series at McCormick Field. It was an up-and-down game as Tourists starter Ethan Hollingsworth lasted just 3.1 innings before handing things over to the bullpen. His opposition, Bryan Price, pitched 6.0 strong innings for Greenville as the Drive looked to head home with a series split.

The Drive got out to an early lead on Hollingsworth with three hits right out of the gate. Singles by Ryan Dent and Mitch Dening set the table for Oscar Tejeda, who drove both runners in with a double. Tejeda was standing at third base with no outs following the play, but Hollingsworth worked out of the jam to keep the Drive lead at 2-0.

Asheville got their offense rolling in the bottom of the second inning with some instant impact coming from their newest additions. First baseman Kiel Roling led off the inning with a triple off the right field wall and center fielder Delta Cleary drove him in with a triple of his own. Thomas Field and Scott Robinson would each contribute RBI hits before the inning was over with the Tourists ahead, 3-2.

Hollingsworth sent the Drive down in order in the top of the third, his first 1-2-3 inning of the game, and looked to be settling in before Tim Federowicz led off the top of the fourth with a solo homerun. Hollingsworth then sent Will Middlebrooks down on strikes before giving way to Isaiah Froneberger after just 3.1 innings of work. Froneberger escaped the fourth inning with no further incident and pitched a shutout fifth. Froneberger got into trouble in the top of the sixth, allowing four runs on five hits, including a two-run double off the bat of Middlebrooks. Right hander Tyler Trice got the call to close out the sixth and retired the only batter he faced.

Trice stayed on and worked a scoreless seventh inning, giving the Tourists lineup a chance to get back in the game. Asheville would push across three runs in the bottom of the seventh, pulling to within one. Jimmy Cesario plated Scott Robinson for one run, and with runners on second and third and two away, the Tourists got another gift from Greenville shortstop Oscar Tejeda. David Christensen stepped in and hit a ground ball toward the middle which was fielded cleanly by Tejeda who threw high and over first base for an error, allowing both runners to score and cutting the Drive lead to 7-6.

It proved to be too much work for Tyler Trice out of the bullpen, as Trice allowed a run in the eighth and two more in the ninth as the Tourists lost, 10-6. Jimmy Cesario remained red hot for the Tourists, registering his fifth straight multi-hit game and pacing the South Atlantic League in batting average and hits.

The Tourists (7-11) will have an off day Monday, then get set to host the Charleston Riverdogs for a four-game series beginning Tuesday at 7:05. Asheville will send RHP Robinson Fabian (1-0, 5.28) to the mound in Tuesday night's contest.
