
Augusta Swings Past Rome

Rome, GA -The Augusta GreenJackets defeated the Rome Braves 8-4 in front of 3,160 fans at State Mutual Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Braves scored the first run of the game in the first inning on an RBI single by Gerry Rodriguez for the 1-0 lead. In the third the GreenJackets tied the game at 1-1 when James Simmons scored from third on a ground out to second by Joel Weeks. Augusta added two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-1 lead. In the fifth, Juan Perez had a two RBI double and in the sixth Ehire Adrianza added a run scoring single followed by a wild pitch with a runner at third to score the fifth run of the game for Augusta.
In the ninth the GreenJackets added three more insurance runs from an RBI single by Ben Woodbury and a 2RBI single by Adrianza. The Braves added three runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Jesus Sucre, who later came around to score along with Samuel Sime on a double by C.J. Lee, but it wasn't enough as the Augusta bullpen was able to close out the 8-4 win.
Eric Surkamp (1-1) gets the win for the GreenJackets while Jacob Thompson (0-1) was the losing pitcher for Braves. Daniel Runzler recorded his second save for Augusta.
