Boise, Idaho - The Boise Hawks managed only three hits on the evening as the Hillsboro Hops took game one of this three game series by a score of 4-1.
Carlos Hernandez received the start and picked up the win for the Hops, pitching six innings of one hit ball with eight strikeouts.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when the Hops put up three runs on Hawks starter, Jack Wynkoop, highlighted by a Jeff Smith two-run double.
The Hops added one more run before the Hawks got on the board in the bottom of the ninth inning on a Marcos Derkes RBI single. That would be all the scoring as the Hops took the game by a score of 4-1.
Jack Wynkoop took the loss for the Hawks, pitching five innings while giving up three runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
The Hawks (12-23) and the Hops (20-15) will play game two of this three game series tomorrow night at Memorial Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
Notes: At two hours and ten minutes it was the shortest game of the season... The Hawks were held hitless until a Luis Castro single in the fifth inning... Wynkoop picked up his first loss of the season.
