Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Greensboro Grasshoppers auctioned off their jerseys Thursday night and were probably glad they won't have to wear them again.

Wearing special tops on "Tropical Jersey Night," the Hoppers were buffeted by the Lexington Legends 8-1 at First Horizon Park. The one good thing about the evening was that the jersey sale raised approximately $4,000, earmarked for Raising Roofs-Builders for Habitat, a partnership between the Greater Greensboro Builders Association and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro.

Lexington won its 10th game in 11 tries against the Hoppers. Sean Walker (6-8) allowed just five hits in seven innings, recording eight strikeouts. Gary Roche's RBI single drove in Greg Burns with Greensboro's only run in the third inning.

The Legends put this one away early with a six-run third inning, capped by a grand slam homer by Mitch Einertson off Hoppers starter Aaron Thompson (8-8). All the runs were unearned after a pair of errors by third baseman Jon Fulton.

Josh Flores cracked a two-run homer in the fourth inning to account for Lexington's other two runs.

Things got so bad for the Hoppers that they wound up with two men on second base when an infield fly rule was called. One was tagged out for a Legends double play.

Later, a Greensboro runner was called out after reaching safely on an error but turning toward the field and being tagged by Lexington's first baseman.

The teams wrap up the series Friday at 7 p.m. at First Horizon.
