
Captains fall to Shorebirds, 9-2

(Eastlake, OH)--The Lake County Captains were held to five hits for the second straight night Thursday as they fell to the Delmarva Shorebirds, 9-2, at Classic Park.
The Shorebirds (20-31) assured themselves a win in the season-series against the Captains (28-23). The Shorebirds have won 16 of 30 meetings with the Captains with the final regular-season game betwen the two rivals coming on Friday night at 7:05.
The Captains remain seven games out of first place with 17 to play. First-place Lakewood was beaten 5-0 at home against Hagerstown.
The Shorebirds rallied from a 1-0 deficit with four runs in the second inning against Jeff Stevens (6-2). Stu Musslewhite had a two-run double to give the Shorebirds the lead for good. Delmarva made it 7-1 in the fifth when Stevens loaded the bases and all three runs scored against reliever Julio Pinto.
Lorenzo Scott socked a two-run homer in the eighth against Jason Schutt to make it 9-2.
Stevens, who was named SAL Pitcher of the Week this week, saw his six-game winning streak and his 22 1/3 innings scoreless streak come to an end. He was charged with seven runs in 4 2/3 innings.
David Hernandez (6-7) improved to 3-0 against the Captains with six innings of two-hit baseball. He allowed only a first-inning run on a double by Chris De La Cruz, a wild pitch and an RBI groundout by Mike Butia.
