Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
HOOKS GET FIRST ROAD WIN - Matt Albers' third strong outing of the season carried the Hooks to their first road win of the year last night, 4-2 over the RockHounds at Midland. Albers allowed just two runs on four hits over seven innings, and got help from Jailen Peguero, who tossed two shutout frames to earn the save.
The Hooks got RBI singles from J.R. House, Josh Bonifay and Jorge Cortes, and a solo homer by Hunter Pence. Shortstop Ben Zobrist turned in a fine defensive performance to help the cause. Corpus Christi will play two more games in Midland before continuing the road trip Friday with the first in a five-game series at Frisco.
HOUSE BUILDING STRONG FOUNDATION - House, catcher and first baseman for the Hooks, has a 12-game hitting streak to start the season. Sitting atop the league with his .420 batting average, House has runs and RBI's in five straight. He's tied with Eric Riggs for the second longest hitting streak in the club's young history, and is one game shy of the longest hitting streak by a Corpus Christi Hooks' player. Center fielder Josh Anderson fashioned a 13-game streak last season.
GETTING TO KNOW... - Starting this week, the Hooks' website, www.cchooks.com , will be featuring an inside look at one Hook player and both their on the field/off the field life. This week's feature is on a new Corpus Christi fan favorite, Hunter Pence. Log in to learn what blue-eyed singer is number one on his list, what his most embarrassing baseball moment was, how he spends his off season, and more.
MAKING HEADLINES - Speaking of Pence, be sure to visit www.minorleaguenews.com to see the new Sparkling City slugger featured on their "Monsters of the Minors" preview. Pence wasn't originally a cover choice, but his first two weeks of the season, the editors quickly adjusted their game plan to feature the hard-hitting outfielder.
NEXT HOME STAND STARTS NEXT WEDNESDAY - The Hooks return to Whataburger Field next Wednesday, April 26th, to begin a four-game series against the Springfield Cardinals. That should be a popular night at the ballpark, since the first 2,500 paid admissions will receive hand-sized replicas of Whataburger Field, courtesy of Whataburger.
These models, perfect for your office desk or for display in your home, are detailed mini versions of the Hooks' picturesque home near the Port of Corpus Christi. The detailing is such that the replicas include the baseball player statue ("For the Love of the Game") located near the stadium's main entrance. Don't miss out on your chance to own this great Hooks' keepsake! For ticket information for the April 26th game and the rest of the home stand, call 361-561-HOOK.
