April 27, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
FRISCO, Texas - Carlos Correa cracked a three-run home run in the fifth while Mike Hauschild and Lance McCullers corralled the RoughRiders in a 5-2 Corpus Christi victory Sunday at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
In the sweep, the Hooks (12-4) outscored Frisco (5-11) 39-10. Corpus Christi has won five in a row while the RoughRiders have dropped six straight.
The Hooks took an early lead in the third against Alec Asher (0-2). Leo Heras served a base hit up the middle and scored from first on a double off the bat of Roberto Pena.
Frisco tied the game at 1 in the home half thanks to four singles. A 6-4-3 double play cleaned up the inning and Hauschild stranded two on base.
Correa opened the fourth with a double to right field. Three batters later, he crossed home plate when Frisco second baseman Drew Robinson, trying to turn a double play, airmailed a throw into the first-base dugout.
In the fifth, Pena scratched out a lead-off single and moved to second on a walk by Tony Kemp. Asher bounced back with a strikeout before Correa turned a 1-1 pitch into a three-run bolt which narrowly cleared the 10-foot fence in left.
Correa ranks second in the Texas League with 19 RBIs and his four home runs are tied for third.
Hauschild (2-1) scattered six hits over 5.0 innings. He fanned four and did not issue a walk.
McCullers netted a four-inning save while striking out a season-high nine batters. He was charged with one unearned tally on four hits.
McCullers has not allowed an earned run over his first 14.0 frames to start the season. The right-hander from Tampa has struck out 21 against 6 walks, holding the league to a .192 batting average.
The Hooks head to Midland for a four-game set at Security Bank Ballpark. Aaron West (0-1, 0.93) and lefty Kent Emanuel (1-0, 3.09) are slated to pitch for Corpus Christi. The RockHounds counter with Nate Long (0-0, 0.00).
