Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
(MIDLAND, Texas) - The Corpus Christi Hooks are going to the Texas League Championship Series. That became reality when the Hooks beat Midland 7-3 Thursday night at Citibank Ballpark to finish off a three-game series sweep of the RockHounds. The Hooks open play in the Texas League Championship Series this coming Monday, September 11th, in either Tulsa, Oklahoma or Wichita, Kansas.
First baseman Josh Bonifay and center fielder Josh Anderson led the way for Corpus Christi Thursday night. Bonifay did his damage early, driving doubles to left center in each of his first three at-bats. He finished the night 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI's.
Anderson provided the stake-through-the-heart hits late in the game. His two-out, two-run double in the sixth gave the Hooks a 6-2 lead, and his two-out, run-scoring triple in the eighth capped the scoring at 7-3. Anderson also had a 3-for-5 evening, with three RBI's.
Third baseman Mark Saccomanno went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while left fielder Jorge Cortes had a 2-for-3 night with a run and an RBI. The top eight hitters in the lineup all collected hits, and six different players scored runs for the Hooks. Corpus Christi racked up 15 hits against four Midland hurlers.
Chance Douglass earned the win with a six-inning blue-collar effort. Douglass allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out nine. The strikeout total was one shy of his season high. Josh Miller, Monte Mansfield and Chad Reineke turned in a combined three innings of shutout relief to preserve the win.
The Hooks will return to Corpus Christi and await the winner of the North Division playoff series. At the time of this writing, the Tulsa Drillers, down two games to none in their series with Wichita, were leading the Wranglers Thursday night 6-0 in the ninth inning. The Hooks will host Game 3 of the Texas League Championship Series on Thursday, September 14th at 7:05 pm at Whataburger Field.
