Frisco RoughRiders News Release

The RoughRiders failed to record an extra-base hit as Corpus Christi defeated Frisco 6-1 to take the first game of the series

Frisco collected eight hits, but they were all singles as Corpus Christi defeated the RoughRiders 6-1 on Tuesday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Hooks catcher Jonathan Fixler blasted a pair of home runs to lead the Corpus' offense. With the loss, Frisco falls three games behind Midland for first place in the South Division.

The Hooks scored two runs in the first frame followed by another run in the third inning to take the 3-0 lead. Frisco found the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Chad Tracy singled and scored on an RBI single by Johnny Whittleman. However that would be all the scoring for the RoughRiders as the Hooks tacked on three more runs, including a two-run home run by Fixler, his second of the game, to give Corpus the 6-1 win.

Frisco starter Andrew Laughter (3-2) allowed three runs over four innings, striking out three and walking two in his first start of his career. Brennan Garr also allowed three runs in relief for the 'Riders. Corpus' starter Tyler Lumsden (2-3) earned his second win of the season, allowing just one unearned run over five innings. Chia-Jen Lo notched his second save with four scoreless innings of relief for the Hooks.

Tracy, Whittleman, and Guilder Rodriguez each had two hits and Andruw Jones reached base three times with a single and two walks. Engel Beltre went 0-for-3 in his Double-A debut, recording a stolen base after being hit by a pitch.

The RockHounds defeated the Missions 8-4 to take a 3.0 game lead over Frisco in the South Division standings with six games remaining in the regular season. Frisco and Corpus will play game two of the series on Wednesday at Dr Pepper Ballpark with first pitch at 7 p.m.
