Hooks Rout Missions for Win No. 88
September 7, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Corpus Christi erupted for five runs in the fifth and Kyle Westwood picked up his Texas League leading 11th victory Sunday night as the Hooks rolled to a 9-2 triumph over the Missions at Wolff Stadium.
Westwood (11-7), who tossed seven shutout innings Tuesday, pitched seven more Sunday. The damage occurred in the fifth on Taylor Lindsey's two-run home run to right field.
Gonzalo Sanudo closed out the game with two scoreless frames.
Hooks pitchers own a 1.88 ERA in the last six contests. The club has gone 5-1 during this stretch.
An error by Lindsey at second base opened the door to a pair of runs for Corpus Christi in the second. Jio Mier and Colin Moran bookended the uprising with doubles.
The Hooks (40-29, 88-51) sent 10 men to the plate in the fifth. Moran coaxed a bases-loaded walk and A.J. Reed followed with a two-run double. Two outs later, Mier plated Reed and Alfredo Gonzalez via a single up the middle, chasing Bryan Rodriguez (6-14) from the game.
Conrad Gregor capped the scoring in the ninth with his 10th home run of the year, a two-run shot to right off Cody Hebner.
The regular season finale is Monday at 2:05. Francis Martes (1-0, 5.06) draws the Labor Day start. San Antonio (29-40, 60-79) sends Stephen Kohlscheen (5-2, 2.74) to the hill.
