Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

FRISCO - Jon Singleton smacked two of Corpus Christi's four home runs Thursday night as the Hooks cruised to a 7-1 triumph over the RoughRiders at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Corpus Christi is now one win away from clinching the first-half title and a trip to the postseason.

Nick Tropeano and Bobby Doran were impressive on the mound. Frisco's (37-29) lone run came on a lead-off blast by Alex Buchholz. His fifth homer of the year hit the foul pole in left field.

Tropeano (2-4) held the 'Riders to four more hits in his five innings of work. He did not walk a batter and struck out three. Doran retired 12 of the 13 men he faced en route to his second save.

Carlos Pimentel, the reigning Texas League Pitcher of the Week, stranded a pair in the first but wasn't as fortunate the rest of the night. Jonathan Meyer opened the second with a double. Michael Burgess was next and cracked a two-run laser to left.

Singleton opened the third with a bomb to right and, one batter later, Erick Castro followed with his seventh round-tripper of the year.

With two away in the fourth, Rene Garcia belted a double into the alley in left-center. Singleton then delivered his second poke of the night - an opposite-field shot onto the left-field berm.

Corpus Christi (41-25) tacked on another in the fifth. Castro hit a two-bagger into the right-field corner to open the frame. Enrique Hernandez chased him home with a two-out single through the left side.

Seven of the Hooks' 10 hits off Pimentel (7-3) went for extra bases.

Corpus Christi looks to clinch the first-half championship Friday night. Jorge De Leon (0-1) and Ruben Alaniz (2-6) are set to face Tyler Tufts (1-1). First pitch is 7:05.
