Cuthbert, Alexander Promoted to Double-A

SPRINGDALE, Ark - The Naturals' parent club, the Kansas City Royals announced the following transactions earlier today. Infielder Cheslor Cuthbert and left-handed pitcher Scott Alexander have been transferred from to Northwest Arkansas from Class-A Advanced Wilmington, infielder Angel Franco has been placed on the 7-Day Disabled List, while right-handed pitcher Matt Ridings has been released by the Royals organization.

Cuthbert, rated the No. 9 prospect in the Royals organization by MLB.com, batted .280 with 21 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 31 RBI in 60 games with the Blue Rocks. Last season, Cuthbert batted .240 in 124 games with Wilmington. Cuthbert finished fifth in the Carolina League with 475 at-bats and tied for eighth while playing in 124 games. Cuthbert, 20, is in his third professional season after signing as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2009.

Alexander is 3-1 with a 1.29 ERA in 17 games with Class-A Lexington and Wilmington. In 42 innings, Alexander has struck out 37 batters while issuing 14 walks and allowing 25 hits. He was the Royals sixth round selection in the 2010 draft.

Franco is batting .294 with 52 hits in 50 games played. Earlier this week Franco was named to the Texas League North Division All-Star team as an infield reserve.

Ridings was 1-1 with a 3.98 ERA in 15 appearances.

Cuthbert will wear number 25, while Alexander will wear number 14. The Naturals roster is currently at the Texas League limit of 25 players, plus Felipe Paulino who is with the team on a Major League rehab assignment.
