Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Polin Trinidad scattered four hits over six innings in his Whataburger Field debut as the Hooks beat Midland 4-1 Friday night before 7,258.

Corpus Christi (27-32) snapped a four-game losing streak. The RockHounds stand 30-29.

Trinidad (1-1) struck out four and did not walk a batter in his second start since promotion from Class-A Salem. He threw 81 pitches, 55 for strikes.

Midland starter Scott Moore (1-1) ran into control problems in the third and it cost him. Richie Paz walked to open the frame and moved into scoring position an out later when Ole Sheldon drew another base on balls. Rob Cosby plated Paz with a single to left field.

Sheldon hit his sixth home run of 2008 two innings later - a majestic solo blast to left off Jason Glushon - and Corpus Christi led 2-0.

RockHound second baseman Jesus Guzman's ripped his 12th round-tripper in the sixth to halve the advantage.

Chris Farley, who struck out the first four batters he faced in relief of Gushon, couldn't get out of the seventh. He issued Paz a one-out walk and surrendered a run-scoring double to Chris Johnson. Farley popped Sheldon up to catcher Anthony Recker in foul territory, but Cosby followed with a single to right, scoring Johnson for a 4-1 Hooks lead.

Evan Englebrook and Kyle Middleton combined for three innings of shutout relief. Middleton, who joined the Hooks from Triple-A Round Rock Friday, earned his first save.

Corpus Christi's Tip Fairchild (1-2) squares off against Ryan Webb (3-4) Saturday at 7:05.
