Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MO - After scoring 11 runs in the eighth inning Friday at NW Arkansas, Corpus Christi engineered another frenzied frame Tuesday night, plating 10 two-out markers to come-from-behind and beat the Cardinals, 11-4, before 4,888 fans in the series finale at Hammons Field.

The rally rendered a series split in the Ozarks and a 5-2 road trip.

After Springfield pitching recorded 13 consecutive outs from the end of the third through the seventh, the Hooks sent 14 men to bat in the eighth, scoring 10 runs on eight hits and three walks against three Cardinal pitchers to erase a 4-1 deficit.

Abraham Toro began the rally with a two-out RBI single into right field. Toro, who plated the first Corpus Christi run in the third, leads the Texas League with 70 RBIs and a .906 OPS. The switch-hitting infielder has 13 hits in his last 19 at-bats.

Two batters later, Ronnie Dawson tied the game at 4 with a two-run triple to left-center off southpaw Jacob Patterson. Patterson walked the next two batters before being pulled for Conner Jones, who then issued a bases-loaded free pass to Bryan De La Cruz.

With the bases still loaded and the Hooks in front, 5-4, Lorenzo Quintana cracked a double to right-center, driving in Chuckie Robinson, Anibal Sierra, and De La Cruz. Colton Shaver and Seth Beer then connected on back-to-back home runs to make it, 11-4.

Shaver and Beer have each homered in three consecutive games. The duo teamed with Toro to belt three consecutive two-out clouts in the sixth inning Monday night.

Shaver is hitting .310 with five home runs and nine RBIs in his last 11 games. In 29 contests since the all-star break, Beer is batting .339 with 14 extra-base hits, 25 RBIs, and a 1.091 OPS. His 10 home runs during this stretch lead the Double-A ranks.

Andre Scrubb, making his third appearance in a Hooks uniform, blanked the Cards over a season-high three innings. Carlos Sanabria, who earned the save in the 10-inning win Monday night, struck out four over two perfect innings to finish the ballgame.

Corpus Christi (19-19, 52-55) is off Wednesday before opening a four-game homestand vs. Midland (20-18, 54-53) Thursday night. The Hooks trail the RockHounds by two games in the "wild card" standings, and currently sit three back of first-place Amarillo (22-16, 56-50) in the TL South second-half race.
