Hook Adds Another Jewel to Impressive 2012 Coaching Staff

Kansas City, KS- Former Kansas City Royals bullpen catcher Bill Sobbe has been added to the Kansas City T-Bones coaching staff as the bench coach for the 2012 10th anniversary campaign. Sobbe joins manager Kenny Hook, pitching coach Andy Shipman, and former Royals teammate, No. 20, first base coach Frank White to round out an impressive staff for the latest edition of T-Bones Baseball.

Sobbe honed the talents of several great pitching staffs for the Royals during his 20-year tenure (1984-2003), including winning a World Championship ring in 1985 alongside players such as Bret Saberhagen, Charlie Leibrandt, Danny Jackson, and Dan Quisenberry. He toiled for years on the same roster as 8-time Gold Glove Award-winner Frank White, now joining him on the same team for the first time since White's retirement from MLB following the 1990 season.

Sobbe's professional playing career spanned three seasons (1979, 1980, 1981), all within the Dodgers organization. He advanced as high as the Double A Texas League in 1981, appearing in 28 games for the San Antonio Dodgers. Sobbe holds a lifetime batting average of .282 and pounded out 231 hits over three complete Minor League seasons. In fact, he backed up future Dodgers catching great Mike Scioscia for a time during his career.

Most recently, Sobbe has enjoyed a lengthy tenure in the Park Hill School District, including the roles of coach, athletic director, and assistant principal at Park Hill High School.

Sobbe and the T-Bones continue their exhibition slate tonight at beautiful CommunityAmerica Ballpark as they face the Kansas City Kansas Community College All-Stars, first pitch set for 7:05. Another notable date during the preseason is Tuesday, May 15th, as the T-Bones host fellow AA foes Lincoln and Winnipeg in doubleheader action beginning at 5:00. The regular season begins on Thursday, May 17th with a home opener versus the New Jersey Jackals, first pitch set for 7:05.
