
Wingnuts Treat Kids to Spring Win

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts beat Friends University 16-1 during their annual School Kids Day at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Already leading 1-0, the Wingnuts exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Taylor Freeman hit an opposite field single to left that scored C.J. Ziegler from third base. After Jake Kahaulelio walked to force in another run, Mike Conroy singled through the middle to drive home two more, and make it 5-0. Ryan Khoury added a run with a sacrifice fly, while Steve Carrillo capped off the inning with a two-run double to left-center.
Wichita plated six more runs in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded, Jared McDonald hit a groundball to third base. Zach Ashford's throw to second sailed wide and into right field, allowing Freeman and Conroy to both score. Mitch Einertson drove in the Wingnuts' 12th run with a line drive single to left. Two batters later, Carrillo doubled home another for his third hit of the game. David Peralta finished the rally with a two-run single to right field.
Josh Lowey started for the Wingnuts and turned in three shutout innings. Lowey allowed two hits, walked none, and struck out three on just 34 pitches.
Jeff Nadeau earned the win with two scoreless frames in relief of Lowey.
Derek Christensen, Nick Walters, Moises Melendez, and Edgar Martinez each contributed a scoreless inning.
Carrillo had four hits, including three doubles and three RBI. Peralta drew three walks.
Bryce Jones started for Friends, and allowed one earned run on three hits in three innings of work. Jones walked one and struck out one in the loss.
Preseason action continues Sunday at 7:00 p.m. when the Wingnuts take on the Kansas City T-Bones at Bettis Family Sports Complex in Topeka, KS.
Wichita's next home exhibition game is Tuesday, May 15th versus the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at 2:05 p.m. All tickets are just $7.00 General Admission and can be purchased at the gate.
