Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers continued to struggle in Alexandria, dropping their second game in a row, and fifth game of the season in Alexandria, 17-4 at Knute Nelson Memorial Park. The Honkers record drops to 6-4 in the second half, and Alexandria will take over first place in the North Division with the win.

The Beetles would strike early and often, scoring in six of eight innings they had at-bats, including a seven-run second inning. The Honkers would not find the scoreboard until the fifth when Bryan Karraker (Jr, New Mexico State) drove in Seth McMullen (So, Winona State) and Tony Kemp (Fr, Vanderbilt). The two runs would only put a dent in the already large Alexandria lead, making the score 11-2 for the time being. The Beetles would continue to respond, crossing the plate six more times in the game.

Karraker went 4-for-5 at the plate in the game, driving in two of the Honkers runs and getting almost half of all Honker hits. Brett Hambright (Jr, Oregon) would hit his second home run of the season to lead off the seventh inning. Hambright finished the game 2-for-4.

Honkers starting pitcher Drew Bowen (Jr, Oral Roberts) would never find a groove, pitching the first two innings and allowing nine runs on as many hits. The Honkers bullpen would also get roughed up, with Alexandria scoring their 17 runs on 17 hits.

The Honkers will regroup over the three day long All-Star break before travelling to Thunder Bay for a two game series against the Border Cats. Both teams will then travel to Rochester for a three game set in Rochester starting on Friday, July 22 at 7:05 PM. The Honkers have on player in the All-Star game, pitcher Nick Dolsky (So, Nebraska). Dolsky posted a 2-1 record so far this season with a 3.6 ERA in 25 innings.
