Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The slates were wiped clean today when the Honkers traveled to Mankato, to take on the MoonDogs in the opening game of the second half. The Honkers would start the second half in the opposite direction they started the season against the MoonDogs, with a 19 hit, and nine run offensive output, to finally break out of their slump and get a win, 9-4.

Jeff McKenzie (So, Delta College) made his second start of the season for the Honkers after one prior start against Brainerd where he earned the loss. McKenzie took the no decision today, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and five strikeouts. McKenzie ran into some control problems, walking three batters and hitting three on the day. McKenzie left the game with a 3-1 score and the MoonDogs up.

Nick Dolsky (So, Nebraska) came in relief of McKenzie, and had been pitching well out of the bullpen for the Honkers in the first half. Dolsky picked up the win in relief, pitching an absolute gem of a game, 3.1 innings allowing just one run on three hits and striking out five batters. Dolsky didn't run into a snag until the final out, allowing the one run with just one batter to go.

The Honkers used a huge seventh inning to break the slump that has seen them not win a game since June 24 at Duluth. A five run offensive output helped ease the tension in the Honkers dugout, helping them come back from a two run deficit.

The Honkers had a season best day at the plate, scoring 9 runs on 19 hits, peppering the ball all over the field. Johnny Coy (RsJr, Wichita State) had his second consecutive three RBI game, this time with a home run in his first at-bat, following with two singles and a double, going 4-for-5 at the plate.

Anthony Hutting (So, Cal State Fullerton) was a homerun shy of the cycle, going 4-for- 4 on the day with a walk. Hutting started his day with a bunt single, and an overthrow that sent him all the way to third base, he followed the single up with a double, then a triple and another single, in that order.

The Honkers will look for a sweep tomorrow, taking on the MoonDogs again at 7:05 pm at Franklin Rogers Park. D.J. Snelten (Fr, Minnesota) will make his first start of the season for the Honkers, making a spot start in place of Bennett Klimesh (Jr, Trinity College). With a 1-0 record in the second half, the Honkers are now tied for the lead in the North Division. The Honkers will return home on Saturday July 9, when they take on the Duluth Huskies at 7:05 pm, at Mayo Field.
