MADISON, WI - July 7, 2011. The Madison Mallards play the Green Bay Bullfrogs at 7:05 p.m. Thursday night at Joannes Stadium in Green Bay. The game will be the opener of the second half of the season for both teams.

One day after losing to Eau Claire in the finale of the first half, the Mallards will look to get off to the same hot start they had in the first half when they started 4-0.

On the mound for the Mallards will be Jonathon Crawford (Florida). Crawford made four appearances in the first half for Madison, including one start. He went 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA. His lone win came against Green Bay in the Mallards' 12-1 victory at the "Duck Pond" on July 1. Crawford pitched five innings in that game and allowed one unearned run. He also walked four and struck out eight in the team's second win over the Bullfrogs this season.

Tim Giel (Columbia) will throw for Green Bay. Giel is 3-1 on the season in six starts, and has an impressive 1.51 ERA. Giel pitched against the Mallards on June 30 in the 3-2 Mallards' win. Giel did not factor into the decision in that game, but did go six innings allowing one run. The game against the Mallards was also the last time Giel has made an appearance for the Bullfrogs.

The Mallards had the league's best offense in the first half, batting .279. The team also led the league in at-bats (1220), hits (340), doubles (63), home runs (27), and total bases (492).

Leading the way individually for Madison was Jordan Owen (Tennessee - Martin), Nate Theunissen (Central Michigan), Niko Fraser (Elon), Mike McQuillan (Iowa), and Justin Scanlon (Michigan State). All five players hit at least .294 and have combined for 12 of the 27 home runs and 71 of the 167 RBI. McQuillan also has two of the team's four triples.

Green Bay will look to continue their strong pitching, which was second in the Northwoods League. As a team, the Bullfrogs compiled a 3.01 ERA in 293 innings pitched. The team also leads the league with three shutouts.

Thursday's game will be the sixth game between the two teams this season. Green Bay has taken three out of the first five games. Thursday will also be game one of a two-game series in Green Bay. The series will conclude on Friday with a 7:05 p.m. start.

Following the Green Bay series, the Mallards will return home to the "Duck Pond" where they will play 19 of the 35 games in the second half. Madison will play two games against Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday and Sunday, with Saturday's game starting at 6:05 p.m., and Sunday's game at 5:05 p.m.
