'Frogs Drop First Game of Second Half

Frogville, WI - July 7th, 2011 - The Green Bay Bullfrogs drop game one of the second half against the Madison Mallards 4-3 at Joannes Stadium in a back and forth game. Two runs in the seventh inning are the difference for the Mallards who come from behind for the win.

A sacrifice fly by Willie Argo and two-out single by Zach Powers gave Madison the lead for good. Tim Giel started for the Bullfrogs and gave up all four runs in 6.2 innings pitch. In a very well played ball game Madison had just one run scoring hit. The other three runs came in on an RBI ground out, wild pitch and sacrifice fly.

Giel was pitching around trouble most of the game. He had runners in scoring position in five of his six plus innings of work. Jonathon Crawford started for the Mallards and allowed just two hits in the first four innings.

Down two nothing in the fifth the Bullfrogs put a pair of runners on with two-outs but could not tally their first run of the game. The sixth inning was a different story. Mitch Haniger and Nik Balog each had a single to lead the inning off. Paul Hoenecke hit a deep drive to center field that Haniger and Balog tagged up on to move into scoring position. It was an aggressive play that worked out and would turn out to be very big as the very next batter Eric Peterson hit a two-RBI single to tie the game. Peterson had his best game as a 'Frog going 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored after Ty Filliben drove him in with a two-out single following Alec Mehrten's sacrifice bunt.

Filliben would steal second base and move to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Ryan Allgrove would reach on a walk as part of a 2-3 day with two walks. Allgrove is now hitting .444 over his last 10 games. He would steal second base during McAlpine's at bat but the two runners would be stranded in scoring position.

Green Bay had some chances the rest of the game to tie it or take the lead in the eighth and ninth innings. In the eighth the 'Frogs loaded the bases with two outs and did not score. In the ninth the 'Frogs got a lead-off walk. Haniger would try to bunt him over to second which he did successfully. Moon rounded second too aggressivly however and was thrown out.

It was a well pitched game for both teams. Time Giel took the loss for the 'Frogs. Travis Parker got the win while Tony Bryant earned his first save of the year. The finale of the two-game series is on Friday eveing. Dueling Pianos will be preforming on Friday and there will be a firework show after the game presented by Miller Lite, The Bar and 101 WIXX.
