Kalamazoo Growlers News Release
Kalamazoo, MI - The Kalamazoo Growlers (6-11) have been defeated by the visiting Rochester Honkers (9-8) by a score of 4-to-2 in the first of their four game homestand at Homer Stryker Field.
Inconsistent late game pitching by Growlers relief pitcher Donnie Eaton (University of Michigan) took the Growlers from a 2-2 tie heading into the top of the ninth inning, to a 4-2 deficit before exiting in the same inning. Eaton gave up two runs as well as five walks in just one inning on the mound grabbing loss in a tough outing.
The Honkers were effective when on base, converting their four hits into four runs. Growlers starting pitcher Ryan Colegate (Ohio Dominican) went four innings giving up two runs and striking out two.
The Growlers struggled to convert their six hits into runs, stranding 11 runners on base.
Nick Yarnall (Pittsburgh University) and Cody Leichman (Central Michigan University) were the only Growlers to add RBI's to the offensive attack.
The Growlers look to avenge the 4-to-2 loss against the Honkers tomorrow as they continue their four game homestand at Homer Stryker Field, first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
Friday is Purple Night, presented by the Van Andel Institute. A portion of every ticket package sold is donated to Van Andel Institute to support biomedical research, cancer research and science education. There will be a "purple out" at Homer Stryker Field for the game against the Rochester Honkers, and fans are encouraged to wear purple to the ballpark. Players will wear special purple uniforms to commemorate the night, and those will be available for sale through a silent auction on the concourse. The field itself will feature purple infield bases and chalk lines, and Purple Community's logo will be displayed in center field. After the game, fans can bring blankets onto the field to watch the spectacular Friday night fireworks display, presented by Walmart-Sam's Club.
